Everything you need to know about SoME PRP Skin Care at Lakeshore Skin + Body.

Five years ago if you were to tell me that there is a product on the market that takes your own blood and creates your own designated skin care, I would probably look at you like you’re crazy. Quite frankly, it is kind of crazy. We are living in a day and age where we can take our own blood and platelets and formulate it into a skin care product. This fact ultimately leads to why this product is superior, innovative, and sophisticated. My name is Hallie Stansky and I am a Licensed Practical Nurse and SoME Specialist here at Lakeshore Skin and Body and I am going to share with you the magic behind the “liquid gold.”

What are Growth Factors?

Growth factors are proteins that our body creates that assist at the cellular level. They stimulate our cells to grow, differentiate, and turn over. In physiological processes, these proteins adhere to inflammation, tissue repair, and oxygen disbursement. A growth factor within PRP, called “PDGF” has been proven to enhance collagen synthesis and production. Growth factors are just one of the adhesive components to something we call, platelet rich plasma, or commonly referred to as PRP. 

Is PRP Safe?

Absolutely. It’s probably the safest thing you can put on your skin! PRP use has been demonstrated in the regenerative medicine use in orthopedics and dentistry since the 1970s. This is because platelets hold bioactive molecules that accelerate healing. They are essential regulators in blood clots naturally directed by the body, but also contribute to widespan range of disease processes. They are one of the first blood components that are on site to a wound or area of destruction within the body. Platelets have diverse molecules within them that provide many benefits. 

PRP in Aesthetics

You may have heard of something called the “Vampire Facial” where PRP is used in combination with microneedling and applied topically or injected. Here at Lakeshore Skin + Body, we do something very similar using the SkinPen Microneedling modality and pairing it what PRP injections and topical application during treatment. This treatment is incredible for skin rejuvenation, acne scars, and fine lines and wrinkles as well as over all skin health.

 PRP can be injected underneath the eyes to reduce dark circles and restore subtle volume or anywhere in the face for collagen stimulation and anti-aging purposes. We also can inject your PRP into the scalp to stimulate hair growth as a form of non-surgical hair restoration!  Many clients prefer PRP as a natural alternative to under eye filler or untrustworthy “hair pills.” They see the results and are gracious for the fact it comes from their own bodies. 

PRP Skin Care Treatments at Home

Aside from their role in reducing inflammation, immune response, and cell fundamentals, platelets can repair and regenerate our skin when applied topically. If you are experiencing acne, fine lines and wrinkles, puffiness, uneven tone, discoloration, and dark circles around the eyes, PRP skin care could be a game changer for your skin care routine. 

When introduced and absorbed by the skin, a clinical trial supported by Aesthetics Biomedical, revealed that consistent use of SoME PRP Serum twice a day everyday for just one month builds up collagen and elastin in the dermis. Three months is the expected time frame to see full results and continuous use is needed to maintain the benefits.

The SoME serum itself is approved for all skin types since it is an autologous topical serum and is made up of botanicals, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, and natural components. One main ingredient is honeysuckle extract to preserve the PRP for up to 90 days in the mini  refrigerator that is included in your SoME Experience. SoME serum can heal blemishes, correct pigmentation/discoloration, improve texture, and assists in hydrating, firming, and healing your skin. This is a product that will require you to have your blood drawn. Once we receive roughly 18mL of your blood, we spin it down in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the platelet rich plasma. We will then draw up and administer 3-4mL of the PRP into the SoME bottles. It is a quick, in-office service at Lakeshore Skin + Body. Because it is required to keep this product refrigerated to ensure the viability and preservation of the platelets, we give you a mini fridge that you can store your SoME serums in. Incorrect storage of this product may result in lack of topical benefits. 

How to use SoMe PRP Skin Care

When using this product, it is recommended to start with a clean face and apply it first before any other products in your routine. In order for platelets to penetrate into the skin, they need to be activated. This can be accomplished by pumping a dime size amount of the SoME serum onto your fingertips and rubbing them together for three seconds, then applying it onto the face and working it into the skin until absorbed. It is directed to use this product morning and night. Some acne early on is normal, as your skin cycle is acquiring familiarity with the new product. This should resolve itself within a few days once your skin begins absorbing the healing properties of the PRP. 

Clients in our medical spa have seen the benefits of using PRP serum post-treatment to promote faster healing. Treatments that are more vigorous or intensive, such as SkinPen Microneedling, Vivace Microneeling RF, IPL Skin Rejuvenation, ablative laser treatments, and controlled heat inducted treatments such as Plasma Pen. We also have clients who receive PRP injections for hair growth and add on a SoMe Experience so they can have PRP at home to apply to their scalp to assist with their hair growth process.
